This compact box gives you eight voices of CD-quality sampling, sophisticated sample editing tools including Chop, Pitch and BPM Sync, plus a 4-part sequencer for creating grooves using samples or onboard Tones. And with 26 killer DSP effects—plus an easy graphic interface with realtime control knobs—the SP-505 has everything groove musicians need to build cutting-edge tracks.

* 3.3 V only; SmartMedia cards sold separately; SmartMedia adaptor or PCI adaptor card required for .WAV/AIFF conversion.

More Than Meets The Eye

In the past, owning a compact sampler meant sacrificing features found in software and high-end machines. The new SP-505 changes all that with helpful tools like sample Chop, for dividing loops into individual samples, and automatic BPM sync of phrases. And with onboard sequencing and professional-quality effects, you get a lot more than you pay for with this cool, tabletop groove sampling workstation.

Powerful Sample Editing

In addition to its 8-note, CD-quality sampling—with the ability to pitch samples chromatically—the SP-505 provides several powerful editing functions. A graphic LCD with waveform display allows you to zoom in when editing Start and End points or boost the level of a specific waveform range. The aforementioned Chop function is great for dividing loops into individual “slices,” which can then be replayed and rearranged at will. And with automatic BPM Sync, getting your loops together is a snap.

4-Part Sequencing with Adjustable Swing

A complete sampling workstation, the SP-505 features a 4-part sequencer with 15,000-note capacity, plus a Swing function for creating shuffle patterns. By mapping individual samples to the pads, you can create custom drum grooves and even overdub loops. Or, create sequences using the SP-505’s internal ROM Tones, which include a selection of drums, basses and synths. A Pattern Select feature makes changing patterns easy using the 16 pads—great for live performance.

Killer Effects Processing and Resampling

With 26 onboard effects, you can twist your samples into just about any sound imaginable. These high-quality groove effects include a new Vinyl Simulator, plus favorites like Isolator, Filter+Drive, Slicer, Reverb, Tape Echo and more—all of which can be controlled in real time using the knobs, or even re-sampled to another pad.

SmartMedia Slot, .WAV Compatibility and More

While the SP-505’s internal memory provides more than two minutes of CD-quality mono sampling, this can be expanded to over one hour using an optional 128MB SmartMedia card. These cards can also store sequencer data, and can be used to import .WAV/AIFF files from a computer as well. And with a choice of Mic, Line, or Coaxial and Optical digital inputs, you can sample virtually any source and process sounds through the internal effects.

CD-Quality Sampling, Effects Processing
and Sequencing for Musicians on the Go!

The BOSS SP-303 Dr. Sample offers DJs and musicians a compact, portable phrase sampler with CD-quality sound, 8-note polyphony, 26 onboard effects and a realtime pattern sequencer—all at a price unmatched by the competition. The SP-303 makes recording, looping and sequencing samples straightforward and intuitive, while SmartMedia™ can be used to expand sampling time and import .WAV/AIFF files. For sampling and effects processing anytime, any place, the SP-303 can’t be beat.

* 3.3 V only

Professional-Quality Phrase Sampling

While the SP-303 is easily the most affordable phrase sampler on the market, its professional sound and specs are on par with far more expensive models. Up to eight mono samples may be triggered at once—even when sampling using the “Standard” 44.1 kHz recording mode. Two additional modes are provided for additional sampling time or to create “Lo-fi” effects.

New Pattern Sequencer

An onboard pattern sequencer makes creating songs from loops and phrases easy. Just select the length (up to 99 measures) and play along to the internal metronome. Aquantize function corrects your timing, making it possible to create drum patterns by sampling individual sounds to the pads. And the SP-303’s sequencer can store up to 7,500 notes.

26 Killer Effects

Not just a sampler, but a full-blown effects processor, the SP-303 includes 26 professional effects like reverb, flanger, delay, and Voice Transformer—plus wicked distortion, filter, Slicer, Isolator, Lo-Fi, and Vinyl Simulator algorithms for twisting your sound to the extreme. Best of all, these effects can be applied to multiple samples simultaneously or to live input signals.

Resampling and More

Once you’ve found the perfect effect, you can resample the sound to a new pad. This makes it possible to get even more out of the SP-303’s effects section. And adjusting effect parameters such as filter cutoff, delay time or modulation depth, for example, is as simple as twisting a knob.

SmartMedia™-Compatible

The SP-303 is the only low-cost phrase sampler that can use SmartMedia™ cards for expanding internal sampling time (up to 202 minutes*) in addition to backing up data. You can even store .WAV and AIFF files from your PC to SmartMedia™ cards and load them into the SP-303 using a new import function**.

* Using 64 MB SmartMedia™ card and Lo-fi sampling in mono.
** Requires SmartMedia™ adaptor or PCI adaptor card.

The Hottest Rhythm Section Around

The JS-5 is your ticket to playing with the hottest rhythm section in town. Through its unique Backing Generator, this compact tabletop machine creates full four-part accompaniments—perfect for guitar players who perform alone, or anyone just wanting to jam. And there’s no need to be an expert in MIDI sequencing; the JS-5 has 200 Preset songs ready to go—just tell it what chords to follow and the tempo you’d like, then start playing along. Individual parts can be muted for using the JS-5 as a preset drum machine with bass sounds, and up to 26 User chord progressions and 100 User songs may be stored in internal memory. Better still is its separate audio track, which can be used for recording an input source to be played back with one of the JS-5’s internal songs.

Simplified Audio Recording

Recording to the JS-5’s dedicated audio track is no different than recording to tape—just hit the Record button and start playing. This built-in audio track is great for recording up to 34 minutes* of vocals, guitar, or even CD’s, and until now, this feature was completely unheard of in a preset backing machine. A selectable input source ensures the JS-5 is properly matched to the type of instrument connect to its input—be it a microphone, line-level source or guitar. Even more amazing is the JS-5’s ability to automatically sync audio recordings to any of its onboard songs through the use of a Timestretch function. This time-saving feature makes it possible to create full accompaniments, complete with digital audio, in a matter of minutes.

* Optional 32MB SmartMedia card required to expand JS-5’s recording time to 34 minutes.

Helpful EZ Compose Feature

Creating arrangements in the JS-5 is simple, thanks to a new EZ Compose feature. By pressing the EZ button, users can select styles and chords through an interactive system that eliminates hidden menus—just cursor to the item to be modified and use the Value dial. With EZ Compose, guitarists can create and jam along to great-sounding backing accompaniments quicker than most bands can do a live sound check.
